The major skills Jovita Carranza has demonstrated in her career at UPS that have made her a successful leader is that Carranza’s’ corporate achievements, determination, drive, innovation, and leadership in business have earned her the distinction of being named Hispanic Business Magazines Woman of the Year 2004 .What the article states along with my belief that Carranza developed teamwork and commitment in employees who work at UPS. Carranza encouraged not only the employees but the company to look at all aspects of company and employee needs. She accelerated the organizational values diversity, encourages quality, loyalty, and social responsibility, among other values throughout. This is what made become a successful leader. Carranza knew what to look for to make a successful organization. She wanted to develop teamwork and interactions. Being employed for over 30 years helped contribute to the success of Carranza, becoming a leader, she didn’t start out like this but her dedication came through. She made her commitment to UPS as they were committed to their employees. The relationship between UPS and Carranza provided the opportunity for her to succeed and allow her employees to create careers within the company.
Carranza started from the bottom at UPS and has worked and earned her way up through the company. She can understand and empathize with the workers in every position throughout UPS because she has worked them at some point. Carranza has worked in so many different departments from being part-time, human resources, up to division & district managers and finally the President of American region, because she was in all of those positions. This is why she is now UP.
In each of that position she had learned, experienced, and grow wiser and understand more the UPS vision and way of working, she was lead and been a leader, and because of the knowledge she gain from each position, Carranza learned how to deal with the verity of employees in the company, and how the company operates which give her the tools to lead.
