Why is it so difficult for the two major political parties in Congress to articulate a coherent policy agenda
$15.00POL 210-06609
ESSAY QUESTION THREE
GROUND RULES: Your response to the question below should be 3-4 pages in length (double-spaced, using regular 12 point font and margins). This is an open-book take-home exam, so you should use the assigned readings and your notes to formulate your response to the question. Since this is an exam, however, you are on your honor not to discuss the content of your response with classmates. The exam is due in class on Wednesday, April 2nd. Any exam received after class will be marked down one grade (e.g., A to A-) for each additional calendar day the exam is late. In most cases, extension of the deadline will only be granted with an appropriately documented personal or family emergency. If you anticipate a problem with the deadline, please let me know immediately.
HELPFUL HINTS: Your exam should use the ideas and events presented in the readings and in class to develop a focused and structured response to the question. Simply recounting history during relevant periods will be insufficient. You need to use that history to make broader arguments about key ideas and concepts, as dictated by the question. If you quote particular readings, you do not need to give a formal footnote, but include relevant page numbers in parentheses after the quote. Please spell-check your response and include page numbers on your document.
Please answer BOTH parts A and B of the following question in your essay:
- Why is it so difficult for the two major political parties in Congress to articulate a coherent policy agenda?
- Is there anything that Congressional leaders can do to make their legislative body run more efficiently?

THE HOLOCAUST IN HISTORY AND IN MEMORY- JEWS Final Decisions to kill all jews
$25.00The Washington MILE: Essay Assignment
Description:
During our stay in Washington, we saw and experienced a number of things that spoke to the larger ‘American experience’ in the world. From the monuments that we visited, to the museums, to the Canadian embassy to the United States, and the various governmental and cultural sites that we toured, you get a sense of what America regards as its natural ‘place in the world.’ Now it is your turn to reflect more deeply on one of those experiences.
You are free to choose a topic that you find interesting and worthy of further exploration, but it should be relevant (if even tangentially) to our visit to Washington. Suggested topics are:
THE HOLOCAUST IN HISTORY AND IN MEMORY- JEWS Final Decisions to kill all jews
I am open to a creative interpretation of any of these themes, or a theme not listed here, but try as best as you can to keep it relatively on topic.
Structure, Format and Research
I would like to see a clear thesis statement or question in the opening paragraph of your work. (This lets the reader understand what the writer will be exploring). Remember to keep the rest of the paper focused on this initial thesis statement or question.
The paper should be about 6-7 pages in length, double spaced, 12 pt. font. That is about 1600-1800 words. You should have 7 sources for the final paper. I would suggest using websites and Seneca Library’s database when looking for sources. Sources should be specific and relevant to your research. Do not use general, encyclopaedic sources like Wikipedia and online encyclopaedias- they are useful for general research, but shouldn’t be cited in your paper. These sources will not be counted towards your ten sources. (Wikipedia is a great place to start your research, but don’t use that type of source in your citations).
You should properly cite all of the websites, and articles that you use in your research. I don’t mind if a majority of your sources are websites, but I would like to see a journal article, where possible, in your mix of sources. I would also like you to footnote all of your citations as you write. Please email me or see me anytime if you have any questions on this.
Plagiarism:
DO NOT simply cut and paste material from websites into your paper. This constitutes plagiarism, which is a serious academic offense. Plagiarism will result in a ZERO on this paper, at the very least. Please see Seneca’s Policy on Plagiarism which is included in the course addendum. Also, see me if you have any questions about what does, and does not, constitute plagiarism.
Grading Rubric:
I will be grading the paper based on the quality of writing and research. Roughly speaking, the breakdown will be:
Research: 25% (Quality of sources used in the paper)
Writing Structure: 40% (Have you provided a clear thesis? Does the paper speak directly to that paper?)
Spelling, Grammar and Style: 20% (Is the writing clean and error free?)
Citations: 15% (Are websites and articles properly cited?)

The Criminal Justice Procedure Essay
$7.00You have been a federal narcotics agent with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) for 5 years. Your unit’s arrest record is outstanding, and you are considered to be the upcoming “hot cop,” and maybe one day, the future SAC (Special Agent in Charge) in a large city. Because of your record and ambition, your supervisor has tasked you with giving a presentation to the DEA academy recruits on the criminal justice process for your jurisdiction. You understand that each federal jurisdiction is the same with only a few small differences in their procedures, but you will give the class based upon jurisdiction in which you live (e.g., in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia). Someone else will do the PowerPoint slides for you once you have written your paper. Your supervisor wants you to take the case of Jimmy Abshire, who is a local drug dealer you legally arrested a few days ago with 2 kilos of cocaine, 14 kilos of marijuana, 2 pistols, 1 sub-machinegun, and $67,000 in cash. You will use Abshire’s case as an example for your class. You just got in a check of his DNA, which links him back to a sexual assault that took place about a year ago, and the link places him at the sexual assault alone with the victim. Make sure that your paper discusses the following:
- Your supervisor wants you to explain to the class each step in the criminal justice procedure (initial appearance, Miranda rights, bail hearings, preliminary hearing, pretrial hearing, trial, sentencing, etc.). At a minimum, explain which step comes in which order, and explain what happens in the steps.
- What charges do you think that the drug dealer should have (State or Federal)?
- When does the “right to counsel” attach to the defendant? Name and briefly explain 3 constitutional rights that the defendant has during and prior to trial. Also, you will want to address whether the defendant has a right to appeal his conviction if he is convicted, and to which court(s).
- What is the role of the judiciary in this case? The role of U.S. Attorney’s office? The role of your office?
- What is the legal analysis of the DNA evidence and the other real evidence that you have collected?
- Remember that your paper (which your supervisor will review) is to serve as the basis of your class, so you want it to be complete and accurate.
