Mental Illness and Society
$17.50Abstract
Mental illness has widely been known to carry a stigma within society. To evaluate the validity of this claim, I interviewed 2 people from 2 different backgrounds to better understand their take on mental illness. One of my interviewees was my roommate, whom is 21 years old, white and also a first year nursing student. She has also recently attended clinicals in a psychiatric hospital here in Fayetteville. My other interviewee was my dad. He is 50 years old, white and is a real estate and finance attorney. My dad also has a son, my brother, which was previously diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, so he has experience with mental illness. After performing both the interviews, I found many things that both the interviewees agreed on and some things they disagreed on.
